TOP ANALYST FIRM POSITIONS IBM IN LEADERS QUADRANT FOR STORAGE SERVICES

According to Gartner, leaders are vendors who are performing well today, have a clear vision of marketplace direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the marketplace. Today's exponential growth in data, growing complexity of storage technology, escalating IT management costs, and increasing strain on internal resources, are driving the need for more efficient and cost-effective ways to maximize and manage server and storage infrastructures. IBM storage services help clients dramatically reduce complexity by assisting them with their storage management needs, providing them with the ability to concentrate on primary business goals by helping them to meet data performance and availability requirements on an as-needed basis. "Clients continue to face the dilemma of dealing with the explosive use of information as a corporate asset. Faced with fewer resources, enlarging storage infrastructures, increasing complexity and numerous regulatory issues, clients are leveraging IBM's information on-demand strategy and storage services to help drive down costs and increase efficiencies in managing their storage environments," said Don DeMarco, vice president, Integrated Technology Services, United States, IBM Global Services. "IBM is providing services to enable, integrate, optimize and manage on-demand business infrastructures – increasing the business value of IT for our customers and delivering what they need, when they want it." IBM storage services include the combined power of IBM Global Services, IBM Systems and Technology Group, IBM Tivoli software, and IBM Research providing customers with a comprehensive set of storage solutions including business continuity and recovery services, infrastructure and systems management services, networking services, technical support and IT education services. Most recently, IBM announced Systems Management Consulting and Design for Data Recovery, a service designed to help customers assess current data recovery capabilities, clarify the strategy, requirements and plans to implement the strategy, and recommend a data recovery target model and solution design that supports business requirements. The 11 companies represented in the Gartner Magic Quadrant ranged from hardware manufacturers and independent software vendors to large outsourcers. North American storage service providers are evaluated on the completeness of their storage services vision as well as their ability to execute. Information on Demand The desire by businesses to access, manage and deliver information more efficiently is driving rapid change in the IT marketplace. Traditional low-tech, hardware-only approaches by proprietary vendors are meeting with resistance as companies grappling with new government mandates and business demands strive to capture and integrate information in a more seamless, real-time fashion across the enterprise. IBM's information on-demand approach combines deep business insight with open standards, advanced storage systems, sophisticated systems management software and leading information management software to create efficient, cost effective and flexible information infrastructures. Regardless of industry, IBM helps companies transform data into insight to enable information on-demand. About the Gartner Magic Quadrant The Magic Quadrant is copyrighted 2005 by Gartner, Inc. and is reused with permission. The Magic Quadrant is a graphical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It depicts Gartner's analysis of how certain vendors measure against criteria for that marketplace, as defined by Gartner. Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in the Magic Quadrant, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors placed in the "Leaders" quadrant.
